This is Titan and Blayze's first fishing trip and kinda mine too - Which brings me back to MY first fishing experiance......
I remember my dad one summer had the urge to take his precious, beautiful, oh so stylish, girly girls finshing. It all started with a trip to non other than...... Wal*Mart (or Mallmart according to Blayze).
We each got to pickout a fishing pole, I'm pretty sure mine was pink and sparkly. I also remember buying A LOT of florescent yellow and red marshmallow thingys (they DID NOT taste like marshmallows!).
Oh Yeah and Dad also bought a tub of worms (just to let you know...I had no problem putting them on the hook!!)
I put the worm right next to the marshmallow thingy and slightly above the hook was a bobber, which I'm pretty sure us girls called it "the boobie".
Needless to say we were out at the lake for what seemed like hours and hours with no bites - UGH!
NOW, any one that has been around all us girls know that,
1. We are very rarely quiet.
2. Heather and Mom are the only patient ones in the family.... and mom would not fish because of the worms on the fishing pole...and some story about her uncle having a lot of big fish in his freezer that would stare at her when she open it to get a Popsicle.
And Heather had no problem letting her rod just sit out in the water and read a book....while the rest of us would have rather bought some trout at the pet store, claim them as "our catch" than to have to sit and wait..... and wait...... I'm pretty sure our fishing rods looked like they were having seizures or something with how much we were throwing the line out and reeling it back in.
3. No one even likes to eat fish except for dad... so why are we fishing again??
However just as we were getting ready to give up and permanently retire the fishing poles..... Mom finally lets "Little Chelsea Bea" get close enough to the water to use her little Micky Mouse fishing rod. She barley throws out the line long enough to get passed the moss and BAM she catches a fish!
It was hilarious to see the look on my dads face. At first it was "you've got to be kidding me." followed by... shock and than panic, because it looked like the fish was going to swim away with Chels. still attached to the pole. We safely got Chelsea...I mean the fish ;) off the hook and dad was filled with pride (and slight humiliation). And it came to past that, that was the first and last time I had gone fishing......up to this point.
Ok, I know your asking yourself, "what does this have to do with our (Brown's) family fishing trip."..... it doesn't, JK :) No but really, Jeff grew up fishing with his dad and grandpa, so they know a thing or two about it. This fishing trip was a bit different for me.
Silence, patients, followed by more silence is key to this fishing trip. - Oh and the right equipment (sorry dad). Apprently you don't need a worm, marshmallow and a"boobie" all right next to each other. Fish are dumb, but NOT that dumb. Soooooo the correct fishin begins......... (love ya dad!)
According to Grandpa Brown evening fishin is tradition. So we got to big Lake about 5:30. It was beautiful!!

It was really neat to watch Mike teach the boys how to put the fishing stuff together. I even learned a thing or two.

Waiting oh so patiently for their turn.

It didn't work for very long!! We were cracking up at each other.
These are some SERIOUS fishers!!

My idea of fishing....
I LOVE this pic.
It still doesn't capture a smidge of how gorges it was that day!

We didn't end up catching anything.... but we all had a blast. Grandpa Brown got to pass down his knowledge and stories of previous finshing trips. Also to catch a glimpse of HIS legacy.
Jeff got to take HIS sons on their first fishing trip and teach them the basics. He is such an a amazing dad, the boys could not have asked for a better man to call "Daddy"!
Titan and Blayze got to be part of the tradition and learn from two of the best examples of hard work and be apart of such a great experiance.
I was reminded of some of the fun memories of "the Thomas fishing trip" and also made some wonderful new memories.
That day I learned the importance of keeping family traditions, memories, and stories alive in our families. I am so lucky to be apart of two amazing families who still keep up with traditions as well as making new ones.
"Family traditions are like spiritual and emotional cement in the foundation of a happy home. They create fond memories, and these memories bond us together as nothing else can."
